Road Courtesy
From the Colorado Driver Handbook, Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles: Page 16 Narrow Mountain Roadways: When vehicles meet on a steep, narrow road which is not wide enough for two vehicles, the vehicle going downhill must yield the right-of-way by backing up to a wider place or by stopping to leave sufficient space for the vehicle going uphill, except where it is more practicable for the vehicle going uphill to return to a wider space or turn out.
Winter Driving Reminders
Do not park your vehicle at the bottom of a downward sloping hill. Another vehicle descending the hill may not be able to avoid sliding into your parked vehicle! This actually happened a few years back, resulting in a 5 car pile-up of SUVs and trucks on Cook Creek Road! Finally, be sure to maintain safe speeds for the conditions which exist - even though this may mean a longer time required to get to Highway 105. The increase in time required to be safe will be much less than that consumed in recovering from an accident!!!.
